Fashion Island opened on September 9, 1967, with a private charity benefit attended by 18,000 guests. Originally called Newport Town Center, it was developed by The Irvine Company and designed as an outdoor shopping destination with an initial mix of four department stores—Buffums, The Broadway, Robinson's, and J.C. Penney—alongside 52 specialty retailers and two restaurants. The center was built to accommodate 5,500 vehicles and has remained a regional retail destination across the decades.

Today, Fashion Island spans 75 acres and houses over 150 boutiques, department stores, and restaurants representing global brands and regional favorites. Major retailers include Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Macy's, and Bloomingdale's alongside specialty tenants like Whole Foods Market, Dick's Sporting Goods, and Ulta Beauty. The center draws shoppers not only from Newport Beach but from across Orange County, with a customer base reflecting the affluent demographics of the surrounding communities.

For Newport Beach families with varied shopping needs and schedules, managing household finances alongside income and savings takes planning. A life insurance policy that protects a spouse's income, covers a business interest, or ensures children's college funding is one way households in this community safeguard their lifestyle and financial plans if an unexpected loss occurs.
